Baldwin Community Schools revives its music program with addition of new band teacher
BALDWIN, Mich. — Music can once again be heard through the hallways at Baldwin Junior/Senior High School.
After a multi-year hiatus, the Baldwin Community Schools’ junior/senior high school band program is back in action with the hiring of Band Director Anthony Aronovici.
Aronovici previously taught high school band and orchestra in California before relocating to Michigan.
He was drawn to Baldwin in part by the music program’s rich history, including its involvement with the Scottville Clown Band, a nonprofit band with members of all ages, including many Baldwin graduates. Aronovici has since joined the Scottville Clown Band himself to bring music and entertainment to the community.
“Baldwin students are a wonderfully diverse, creative group. My goal is for the students to enjoy themselves while learning how to express themselves through their music,” Aronovici said. “I’m working to foster a program that connects the school with the local community, encourages school spirit and supports our athletic teams.”
About 80 students have joined band classes this school year. Aronovici is teaching five classes, one each for sixth, seventh and eighth grades, along with beginning and intermediate high school classes.
The classes include woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments, and all instruments and supplies such as reeds are provided to students at no cost to families.
Aronovici plans to hold a concert in December and will assess the potential for marching at football games later this semester. As the program grows, he hopes to include additional instruments and potentially start a jazz band.
“We are thrilled to have Anthony on board to restart our band program and get our students excited about music,” said Superintendent David Forrester. “Baldwin has historically been a top-notch band program with high ratings in state competition, and we are happy to again offer this wonderful program to our students.”
