To Our Parents and Families,
The Governor has recommended that schools consider a two-week pause for school and sports, beginning on Monday, April 12. At Baldwin Community Schools, we believe we had a relatively successful remote learning option to begin the school year, through the end of February.
We have the ability to continue education in a remote setting during this two-week pause. We will resume the previous Continuity of Learning Plan we had incorporated from August through February. Our schedule will remain the same as we have had since March 1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:30 to 3:30; Wednesday will continue to be an asynchronous day. Our “permanently remote” students will be able to join in regular class learning! We will resume this on Monday, April 12, with the expectation that we will resume in-person learning on Monday, April 26.
We will also postpone spring athletics at this point, again until we resume on Monday, April 26.
We care about our students, staff, and community — and, as you know we have seen an uptick in positive cases in the community. Furthermore, the school district has several students on quarantine due to close contacts during spring break.
We did not make this decision lightly, because now that we have resumed in-person learning, we LOVE seeing our kids and families every day. Hopefully, this two-week pause will last only two weeks and we will be able to resume in-person learning on April 26.
We will have food pick-ups on Mondays from 9-11 a.m. Each Monday, families will receive seven days of meals for all of their school-aged children.
State testing, scheduled for next week, will be postponed. The make-up date is unknown yet.
