Students at Baldwin Community Schools now have access to books in their classroom thanks to two local organizations.

Because the school library is closed due to the COVID pandemic, students had to rely on teacher-provided classroom libraries for reading materials.

That’s why the Baldwin Rotary Club and the Fremont Area Community Foundation decided to donate $3,500 in books for classroom libraries.

Amy Straathof-Anderson, a second-grade teacher at Baldwin, says the new books gave students an increase in interest to read.

“Right now, we are implementing like a 15-minute reading block for all children K-5, just to simply read and to read for enjoyment, so it doesn’t even have to be tied to the curriculum, so this is kind of helping to support that,” says Anderson.

Baldwin Rotary Club and the Fremont Area Community Foundation also provided private contributions the opportunity to match the funds donated.
